Yaroslavl is located on the river Volga in 253 km from Moscow, in 57 from Rostov the Great, in 76 km from Kostroma.

Brief History:

1010 – foundation of the town by the prince Yaroslav the Wise on the place, where the prince had killed the bear. You can see this bear on the emblem of the town.
1463 – Yaroslavl became the part of the principality of Moscow.

Attractions & Highlights:

The ensemble of the monastery of St. Savior (XIII c.) – the jewel of the russian artisan art. From the embankment of Volga there is the view of the church of Elías the Prophet (XVII c.) with solemn frescos; the chamber of Metropolitan, the ancient residence of metropolitans of Rostov, an elegant rotunda and the remains of the Guests House (the ancient commerce center); the museum of Art counting about 8 thousand pictures, sculptures and graphic art.
