It is the center of training and education of cosmonauts, which is located in 30 km from Moscow . In 1968 the base had a long name of the Center of Conditioning of Cosmonauts of Yuri Gagarin in honor of its first graduate. Now it is an authentic town, where 6 thousand inhabitants live. On some buildings of the town there are space probe simulators. Star City hosts the world's largest centrifuge, used for training and medical examinations of cosmonauts in conditions of simulated G-loads, the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory, and a circular reservoir with a model of the famous space station “Mir”. Here at the station the cosmonauts pass their space tests. A Spanish astronaut Pedro Duque had trained here for about a year and a half before his “mission Cervantes” space voyage in October 18, 2003.
